Online Bookstore Get Me Books

Challenges:

The getmebooks.com is a Yahoo eCommerce website. Get Me Books specialize in Russian Books for sell. Their customers are mostly in Toronto, Canada. This site provides pertinent information on books written in the Russian Language. Extensive graphic were needed for this site in replicating book covers on the homepage. International characters are not supported through the Yahoo small business services in databases used for merchant solutions. These characters can only be displayed by substituting it through use of the escape characters. In our research, we found that Starintek Corporation developed a C++ database managing program that allowed customers to create and modify texts in the Russian Language and export them to the HTML escape code. This new state of the art program also allowed our team to create cross links for the products automatically with minimum configurations. This was completed with no extra user intervention afterward. The newly developed program employs a flat-file transported from the website as a database. The new program can work on the flat file without using the database engines. This removes the costly need to install and support other databases. Once editing is complete the flat file is sent in a Coma Separated Value (CVS) format. That format is read by the Yahoo database engine allowing the client to continue to utilize the Yahoo e-commerce website. For the client, it is now the best of both worlds. We also had to make some minor changes to the Yahoo RTML-engine scripts. The changes allowed the HTML pages to start from scratch. This helped to make timely database changes that could be imported into Yahoo. Because of these upgrades and additions, the Yahoo e-commerce store now served dual purposes. It could be used to describe the products using the Russian Language, with all of the proper characters being used, and the website is absolutely ordered, in terms of page hierarchy and links. That fixed the common problem of lost and or broken links. Those issues don’t exist anymore for this site. Usually only HTML code is readable from most slow speed computer, but this fix allows for quick reading even using java from evem the slowest computer. The website is rocket fast and bullet proof from hackers utilizing the protection from Yahoo’s security system.

Baby & Kids Furniture Warehouse

Challenges: Initially, looking at the website we knew this work was cut out for us. This site had the highest ranking on the Google search engine. Our task was to construct a new modern website design for this established published site keeping its rating. The added need was being able to provide easy manageable Content Managing System (CMS) allowing the owners the ability to edit pages in real time. To craft the website using a new dramatic stylish visual as in its current presentation, we had to incorporate the latest technology available to our professional website designers. We were inspired to use PHP and MySql, the world’s most popular open source database, giving us the flexibility of vibrantly created pages. We then added, ActiveScrip 3.0, a source code used in programming, to allow for flash inserts. WordPress, the integrated engine allowed owners full control in editing and managing content for their site. This gave the owners the ability to customize content for the site as they needed. We incorporated ultra modern statistics systems tracking user searches in terms of time spent on each identified page. This information allows us to create new web site pages utilizing information gleaned from their own site as guideline. Pages with high Google ranking can be used in the future to garner more like traffic. In addition to the modern contemporary face of the website it has the forms needed to track customer information. Whole sales shipping labels and customer requests forms are all online, saving time and documenting important information. Our partnership with this company helped them get the results they were looking for using our creative technological skills.

UMCA Rich Tree Academy

Challenges: Schools have a unique challenge in that multiple accounts with manageable access for tied users are needed. The UMCA Rich Tree Academy website required hundreds of accounts and needed accessibility for students, parents, teachers, administration, and the general public. Privacy was the number one concern for everyone involved in this project. Moving between portals caused concerns that had to be addressed. To help with this site’s maneuverability issues, we created their website design using the Wordpress engine. Using Starintek’s custom front end themes, with plug-ins designed to provide the sought after features. We incorporated our signature products. This allowed the new website to provide every registered user, including students, teachers, parents, administrator, and others with a unique recognized control panel proposed to show only user’s relevant information. At the same time the website incorporates the latest technology such as the stylistic AJAX, PHP, MySql, and ActiveScript 3.0. We assured the school’s administration that they would have complete control over the many added features. Unique to schools we added portals such as; school news, homework, and photo albums. These areas need constant updates by various staff and students. They also have to be accessible by parents or other classrooms. Making these things user friendly, yet safeguarding the privacy of the students, staff, and school was a feat in itself. The capability to send emails to users or send personal comments to students and parents was also a requested addition that we complied with for this client. Mass parent notices, daily teacher messages, and student reminders were all a part of that step as we worked in tandem to make this site comply with all of the needs of the users.

Schools pose a significant privacy concern, yet we were able to offer a solution that was easy to operate, functional, and offered the needed privacy for all student records and information.
